The Congress party’s political strategy appears to be on shaky ground after Arvind Kejriwal’s cold shoulder in Delhi. Now, a new storm brews in Bihar, where the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), led by Tejashwi Yadav, seems poised to dominate the alliance equation. For a party struggling to reclaim its relevance in state politics, this double blow raises serious questions about Congress's preparedness for the 2024 general elections.
The issue stems from Congress's inability to assert itself as an equal partner within alliances. While it played second fiddle to the AAP in Delhi during its stance on the GNCTD Act, the situation in Bihar seems to be worsening. Tejashwi Yadav, emboldened by his growing popularity, might demand a larger share of seats, leaving Congress at risk of becoming a fringe player in a state crucial for national ambitions.
Congress must act swiftly to redefine its role in regional coalitions. The party cannot afford another scenario where its presence is overshadowed by stronger allies. A lack of clear vision and proactive negotiation strategies has repeatedly alienated regional allies, weakening the party's influence.
As the 2024 elections loom closer, Congress must learn to balance collaboration and assertiveness. Bihar offers a critical test—if mishandled, it could spell further decline for a party already struggling to find its footing in Indian politics.
