History with Integrity, Bains Calls for Impartial Scholarship

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, addressing the History Congress in Chandigarh, maintained that impartiality should be the critical virtue in the historian's arsenal. He urged historians to prioritize facts over ideology while stating: history must be an unbiased mirror of the past.

Historians should be careful against the fast-rising politics that distort the facts for their agenda. "History should not divide us; it should inform and unite. Scholars must do their part with integrity," he said.

The Congress was well participated by eminent historians across the length and breadth of the country, discussing an array of topics-inclusivity and authenticity in research. Mann's remarks echoed really well with those present in attendance as they recognized the need of the hour: securing history from the political dimension.

Dr. Neha Bains-the keynote speaker-was also on the same page as Mann, saying, "It is the responsibility of historians to truth. Foisted history takes away one's identity."

This event also spoke of the role of history in nation-building, with a demand for collaborative fight against misinformation and for true scholarship by Mann. He expressed hope that the History Congress would make a new beginning to clear the air about India's past.

The message from the Chief Minister is quite timely in the age where most historical narratives are twisted and certainly passing the message to the academicians to hold their grounds to truth and impartiality.
