Illegal Voters in Bengal? BJP Alleges Rohingya, Bangladeshi Enrollments
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stirred controversy by alleging that Rohingyas and Bangladeshi nationals have been illegally enrolled as voters in West Bengal. According to BJP leaders, these enrollments are part of a larger strategy by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) to influence election outcomes.
State BJP president, Sukanta Majumdar, accused the TMC of using unethical tactics to secure their voter base. "These illegal voter registrations are a grave threat to democracy. The government is blatantly compromising the electoral process for its political gains," Majumdar stated at a press conference in Kolkata.
The allegations, however, were strongly denied by the TMC. Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh dismissed the claims, calling them baseless and politically motivated. "The BJP is spreading misinformation to cover up its failures and deflect attention from important issues like price rise and unemployment," Ghosh retorted.
Political experts believe the claims could further escalate tensions between the two parties, especially with elections around the corner. While the BJP has demanded an investigation into the alleged illegal voter registrations, no concrete evidence has been presented so far.
Election Commission officials have refrained from commenting, but sources indicate they may initiate a verification process to address the accusations. The issue has reignited debates over illegal immigration and its political implications in border states like West Bengal.
With both parties trading barbs, voters are left wondering whether these allegations will influence the democratic process or serve as another chapter in Bengal's charged political narrative.
