We are not too far from the Neeraj Chopra Classic javelin throw competition as the event has been scheduled for 24 May 2025 at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula, Haryana. The event which has been titled NC Classic was confirmed by World Athletics.
It will be a single-day javelin throw competition and has been graded as a World Athletics 'A' category event which is equivalent to a Continental Tour Gold-level competition in ranking points. Introduced in 2020 as the replacement for the World Challenge series, the Continental Tour is a second-level global athletics circuit below the Diamond League. It consists of four levels: gold, silver, bronze, and challenger.
Neeraj Chopra Classic javelin competition details
Two Olympic medallist and world javelin champion, Neeraj Chopra will be the showstopper at the competition. The NC Classic will also feature best javelin throwers of the world arriving in India for the very first time.
Apart from competing, Neeraj is also a member of the organising committee and had previously commented that hosting the event will be an inspiration to Indian athletes.
It has been an old dream of mine to organize and host a world-class javelin competition in India," Neeraj had stated. "I am confident that my fellow competitors and the Indian fans will both build an experience that will be talked about for many years. I am looking forward to seeing how large we can make this.
This will be Neeraj's first time competing at home after the 2024 Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar.
The NC Classic 2025 will also be part of the events qualifying for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Neeraj has already qualified for the September meet.
