Rahul Gandhi: J&K Must Be Governed by Locals, Not Delhi

In a strong statement during his visit to Srinagar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) should be governed by its own people, not by authorities from Delhi. Addressing a gathering, he expressed concerns over the current central administration in J&K, calling for the immediate restoration of full statehood and local governance.

Gandhi criticized the BJP government for stripping J&K of its autonomy following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, saying it had led to widespread discontent and a loss of identity among the people. “The voice of the people is being silenced. It’s time that J&K is run by its own people, not by remote control from Delhi,” Gandhi stated.

The Congress leader also highlighted the need for transparent elections, insisting that only a government formed by the people of J&K could truly understand and address the region’s concerns. He further accused the central government of neglecting the aspirations of the local population and imposing policies that do not resonate with the ground reality.

Gandhi’s visit comes ahead of the much-anticipated assembly elections, and his statements are likely to resonate with many who desire a return to local governance. The call for restoring J&K’s statehood has been growing louder, with leaders across party lines advocating for the empowerment of locals in determining their own future.
