Sajad Lone Questions Cabinet's Silence on Statehood

People's Conference Chairman Sajad Lone has raised serious concerns over the Union Cabinet's continued silence on the much-anticipated statehood resolution for Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a press conference, Lone expressed disappointment at the lack of transparency, calling it a worrying trend. “Why is there a shroud of secrecy around the statehood issue? The people of Jammu and Kashmir have the right to know the government's plans,” he said.

According to Lone, the lack of information has led to widespread confusion and distrust among residents. “The government's refusal to make a clear statement on the matter suggests they might have hidden agendas. This silence only deepens the existing insecurities in the region,” he added.

Lone’s statements come at a time when there is mounting pressure on the government to restore the region’s statehood, a promise that has been reiterated by several Union ministers over the past few years. However, no specific timeline has been provided, leaving residents in limbo.

While the government has remained tight-lipped, political parties across the spectrum have been vocal in their demands. “We don’t need vague assurances. What we need is clarity, commitment, and a clear roadmap for the restoration of statehood,” said Lone.

Critics believe the government’s silence on the issue could be a strategic move to maintain control over the region, but political leaders like Lone are urging for transparency, accountability, and immediate action to resolve the concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
