Shah Hails J&K Security Gains
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed optimism regarding Jammu and Kashmir's security situation, claiming that it has seen remarkable improvement in recent years. Speaking at a public event, Shah attributed this progress to the historic abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which stripped the region of its special status.
Shah emphasized that the government’s tough stance on terrorism and initiatives to strengthen local governance have ushered in an era of stability and development. “The terror graph has drastically declined, and incidents of violence are at their lowest in three decades,” he stated.
However, critics argue that the Home Minister’s assessment glosses over the challenges still faced by the region. Several political analysts suggest that while security metrics may have improved, the political void left after the abrogation continues to fuel dissatisfaction among locals. Shah, however, dismissed such concerns, asserting that increased voter participation in upcoming elections reflects the people's faith in the government.
The Home Minister also highlighted the growing investments in the region, citing them as proof of restored normalcy. “J&K is no longer seen as a conflict zone but as a land of opportunities,” he claimed.
Opposition parties have countered Shah’s narrative, arguing that economic gains cannot substitute for democratic rights. As elections loom, this narrative battle is likely to shape voter sentiment in a region still grappling with its political future.
