Sonia’s Surprising Truth

In a candid disclosure, Sonia Gandhi, the former Congress president, acknowledged her decision to appoint Dr. Manmohan Singh as India’s Prime Minister in 2004. Speaking at a party event, she admitted that while she was urged to take on the role herself, she firmly believed Dr. Singh would better serve the nation’s interests.

Sonia’s decision, hailed by many as selfless, came at a time when Congress returned to power after a resounding victory. Despite being the obvious choice as the party leader, her foresight led her to hand over the reins to Singh, a respected economist and administrator.

Reflecting on the decision, Sonia said, “It was clear to me that Dr. Singh’s expertise and integrity would bring more stability and credibility to the government.” Her remarks come at a time when Congress seeks to revive its public image amidst political challenges.

Critics have often questioned her decision, speculating whether her reluctance stemmed from personal reasons. However, her latest statement appears to put those doubts to rest, showcasing her strategic thinking and commitment to the nation.

This revelation also rekindles debates about leadership dynamics within Congress. Did Sonia’s decision strengthen the party or highlight its dependence on the Gandhi family’s influence? Regardless, her confession reinforces her role as a leader who placed India above personal aspirations.

As Congress prepares for upcoming elections, Sonia’s words might serve as a reminder of the party’s legacy and its evolving leadership style.
