Handwara, April 12, KNT: A student lost her life and 14 others were injured, three of them critically after a bus carrying students and faculty from Government Degree College (GDC) Handwara met with an accident on Saturday in the Vodpora area of the town.
According to eyewitnesses and local authorities, the college bus veered off the road near Vodpora and skidded into a ditch.
Preliminary reports suggest the driver may have lost control of the vehicle on a sharp turn, though a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
Among the injured are 15 students and teachers.
Locals and police rushed the victims to the district hospital in Handwara, where one girl student was declared dead on arrival. Three other students with critical injuries were referred to tertiary care hospitals in Srinagar for specialized treatment.
The district administration has expressed deep condolences and assured support to the bereaved family. College authorities have suspended classes for the next two days in mourning. [KNT]
