Lightning Strike Damages Vehicle in Awgam Village, Kulgam

A lightning strike during an unexpected thunderstorm caused severe damage to a Tata Magic vehicle (Registration No. JK18D 3462) in Awgam village of Kulgam district late Wednesday evening. The vehicle belonged to Rayees Ahmad, a local resident from a financially underprivileged background.

Emergency response teams, including the Fire & Emergency Services and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), swiftly reached the scene and took necessary safety measures. Thankfully, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

The damaged vehicle was the sole source of income for Ahmad and his family, making the incident a significant financial blow. Local officials have been notified, and the matter is reportedly under review for possible compensation and relief.

Following the incident, local residents and members of the transport community have appealed to the Kulgam district administration to provide immediate assistance to Ahmad, emphasizing his economic hardships and dependence on the vehicle for livelihood.

In the wake of this incident, the district administration has reiterated its advisory for residents to remain indoors during thunderstorms and to follow all safety guidelines issued by the meteorological department.
