The Jammu and Kashmir administration has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan,” registering 175 FIRs and arresting hundreds of individuals as part of a large-scale anti-narcotics campaign.
According to officials, the campaign has been launched with the objective of curbing the growing menace of drug abuse and dismantling networks involved in the supply and distribution of narcotic substances across the Union Territory. Law enforcement agencies, including the Jammu and Kashmir Police, have conducted coordinated operations in multiple districts, targeting drug peddlers, suppliers, and individuals linked to organized narcotics networks.
Authorities said that during the recent phase of the campaign, 175 First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Hundreds of suspects were arrested, while substantial quantities of narcotic substances, cash, vehicles, and other assets allegedly connected to the illegal trade were seized.
Officials noted that the drive is not limited to enforcement actions alone. Alongside police operations, the administration has also focused on awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and local communities to educate young people about the harmful effects of drug addiction. Health departments and social welfare agencies have been directed to strengthen rehabilitation and counseling services for individuals struggling with substance abuse.
Senior officials described the campaign as a comprehensive approach combining prevention, enforcement, treatment, and rehabilitation. They emphasized that drug abuse poses a serious threat to society, particularly to the youth, and requires collective action from government agencies, educational institutions, families, and community organizations.
The administration has also increased surveillance along vulnerable routes and border areas to prevent the smuggling of narcotics into the Union Territory. Special teams have been deployed to identify and dismantle supply chains, while investigations continue to trace the financial networks supporting the illegal drug trade.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to making Jammu and Kashmir drug-free and warned that strict legal action would continue against those involved in narcotics-related activities. Citizens have been encouraged to share information about drug trafficking and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against substance abuse.
Officials said the “Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan” will continue in the coming months with intensified operations, community outreach programs, and rehabilitation initiatives aimed at protecting young people and strengthening public safety across the region.
