Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Azad today announced the name of his new political outfit, 'Democratic Azad Party'. This announcement comes exactly after a month from Azad's resignation from the Congress party.

Declaring the new name of the party during a press conference, he shared that it will be democratic, secular and independent from influence of any sort. The new flag of the Democratic Azad Party consists of three colours- mustard, white and blue.

Earlier, the ex Congress leader had revealed that he would launch a new political outfit of his own, which will focus on the restoration of full statehood of Jammu and Kashmir. He also said that the people of J&K would decide the new name and flag of the party.

After breaking his fifty-years long association with the Congress party, he said that he would prefer a 'Hindustani' name understandable by all. His party will focus on statehood restoration, and land and employment rights of native poeple.

He got infuriated at Congress while saying that Congress and its people were trying to defame him and his supporters who decided to quit the party, but their reach is confined to computer tweets. He said that this is the reason why Congress is nowhere to be seen, during his first public meeting in Jammu's Sainik Colony.

In his resignation letter addressed to Sonia Gandhi, Azad had questioned the party leadership in the past nine years, pointing out Rahul Gandhi in particular. He had claimed that Sonia Gandhi was merely a 'nominal head' and that all major decisions of the party were taken by either Rahul Gandhi or his PAs and security guards. He also described Rahul Gandhi as 'non-serious' and 'immature'.
