The four cough syrups that have been banned are not being sold in Kashmir, the Drugs & Food Control Organization, J&K announced on Friday, urging residents not to panic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has just issued a warning on four cough and cold syrups manufactured by Maiden Pharmaceuticals in India, claiming they may be linked to the deaths of 66 children in the Gambia.

They consist of Promethazine Oral Solution, Magrip N Cold Syrup, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, and Makoff Baby Cough Syrup.

After discovering the formulations from the distribution channels and being aware of the WHO ban, Deputy Drug Controller Kashmir asked for quick action from all Assistant Drug Controllers (ADCs).

Greater Kashmir was informed by State Drugs Controller Lotika Khajuria that these four syrups were unavailable in J&K.

These drugs have been exported to other nations. We started the inspection procedure to examine the samples and quality of the drugs, but we found nothing, she affirmed.

According to Khajuria, this medication was exported to other nations by a pharmaceutical business situated in Haryana.

On Thursday, the Union Health Ministry announced that the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) had sent samples of the same batch of the four drugs produced by Maiden Pharmaceuticals Ltd, about which the WHO had issued an alert for testing. A decision regarding the next step would be made once the results are received, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The WHO issued a notice on Wednesday over four "substandard" cough syrups, and the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has also sought more information from the organisation.
