Security forces recovered a Chinese-made pistol, suspected narcotics and other suspicious items during a search operation near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said on Thursday.
According to officials, the recovery was made during a joint operation launched by the Indian Army and local police in a forward area close to the LoC following specific intelligence inputs about suspicious movement in the region.
During the search, security personnel recovered a Chinese pistol, a magazine, several rounds of ammunition and packets containing suspected narcotic substances. The seized materials have been sent for further examination and forensic analysis.
Officials suspect the items may have been dropped or hidden by cross-border smugglers or militants attempting to infiltrate into Indian territory. Investigators are now trying to determine the origin of the consignment and whether it was linked to any terror or smuggling network operating along the border.
The area has been cordoned off and additional search operations are underway to ensure no other weapons, explosives or narcotics remain hidden nearby. Security agencies are also scanning nearby routes frequently used for infiltration attempts.
Poonch and other border districts of Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed repeated attempts to smuggle weapons, narcotics and ammunition from across the border in recent years. Security forces have intensified surveillance and anti-infiltration measures along the LoC to curb such activities.
Officials said further investigation into the recovery is ongoing and more details are expected after the forensic examination of the seized substances and weapons.
