The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Wednesday carried out a mock drill along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway to assess and strengthen security preparedness on the anniversary of the Pahalgam attack.
The exercise was conducted by the 84 Battalion of the CRPF in coordination with local police and other security agencies. Officials said the mock drill was aimed at testing response mechanisms in case of a potential terror threat, particularly on one of the most sensitive and strategically important routes in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the drill, security personnel simulated various emergency scenarios, including convoy movement under threat, evacuation procedures, and coordinated counter-response to an ambush. The operation also involved quick reaction teams, surveillance units, and medical response teams to ensure a comprehensive assessment of readiness.
Authorities stated that the drill was part of routine security measures but took on added significance due to the anniversary of the Pahalgam attack, which had heightened alertness across the region. The aim was to ensure that forces remain fully prepared to handle any untoward incident and to safeguard both civilians and security personnel.
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway serves as a critical lifeline, connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country. Given its strategic importance, it has often been a focus area for heightened security arrangements, especially during sensitive periods.
Officials added that such drills help identify potential gaps in coordination and response, allowing agencies to fine-tune their strategies. The exercise also included coordination with traffic authorities to minimise disruption for civilian movement along the highway.
Security has been tightened across Jammu and Kashmir in view of the anniversary, with increased deployment of forces and intensified checking at key locations. The mock drill by the CRPF is part of a broader effort to maintain vigilance and ensure peace in the region.
The administration has urged citizens to remain alert but not alarmed, emphasising that such drills are preventive measures designed to enhance safety and preparedness.
