KULGAM, JUNE 24: In view of the ongoing paddy cultivation season, the District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan (IAS), today chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the status of irrigation and water availability across the district.

The meeting focused on the functioning and current status of 48 major irrigation canals and systems, including Noorabad, Watoo, Yari, Grimtoo, Buman, Banimullah, Sonman, Mav, Amnoo Lad, Bani Lad, Tethbuji, Hardchoon, and Nandi canals. The DDC emphasized the need for uninterrupted and equitable irrigation supply, particularly to tail-end areas.

During the meeting, the DDC issued clear directions to the officials of the Irrigation, Rural Development, Revenue, and Mining departments to remain stationed in their respective jurisdictions and proactively resolve any emerging issues on the ground. A 24x7 control room has also been made operational to monitor irrigation-related concerns and facilitate swift action.

It was further directed that no employee shall leave the headquarters without prior permission from the district administration, ensuring accountability during this critical period. Special efforts, including warabandi, manpower mobilization, and leakage reduction measures, are being initiated to address the water needs of tail-end areas.

To specifically address issues related to the Nandi Canal, the Executive Engineer of Irrigation was instructed to coordinate closely with local Tehsildars to ensure timely redressal of grievances.

The meeting was attended by the Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), District Mineral Officer (DMO), all Tehsildars, Executive Engineer and AEEs of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Block Development Officers (BDOs), and other concerned officials.
