KULGAM, July 16: Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan (IAS), today chaired a detailed review meeting to assess the progress of projects being executed under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 in the district.
During the meeting, officers from the Jal Shakti Department delivered a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation on the status of water supply and infrastructure development works under the mission.
It was revealed that the combined treated water requirement in the four urban towns of Devsar, Kulgam, Frisal, and Yaripora stands at 3.28 Million Gallons per Day (MGD), whereas the current availability is only 1.489 MGD, leaving a shortfall of 1.80 MGD. This gap is expected to be addressed through key interventions under AMRUT 2.0.
Officials informed the DC that four water supply schemes have been sanctioned under the mission, all of which have already been allotted for execution at an estimated cost of Rs 14.62 crore. The water sources for these schemes include Nallah Veshow, Nallah Sonman, and Shankarpaul Spring.
DC Khan directed all concerned agencies to ensure regular monitoring of the works, maintain transparency, and expedite execution to ensure timely completion. He emphasized that the core objective of AMRUT 2.0 is to achieve universal coverage of functional household tap connections in all urban areas.
He added that the ongoing infrastructure upgradation under AMRUT 2.0 will significantly improve water service delivery and enhance the quality of life for urban residents.
The meeting was attended by Joint Director Planning Malik Suheel, Superintending Engineer Hydraulic Circle Anantnag-Kulgam, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Riyaz Ahmad Shah, Executive Engineer Kulgam Ishfaq Hameed, Executive Officers (EOs) of municipalities, and other concerned officials.
