Encounter breaks out in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir

An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists during the early hours of today in Yedipora, Pattan area of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla. 

According to the Kashmir Zone Police, the police and security forces are doing their job and further details shall follow.

In the early hours of Friday, another encounter had broken out between terrorists and security forces in the Chitragam area located in Shopian district. 

On Tuesday, the Indian Army along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police had killed two terrorists in the Avhotu village in Kulgam district, said the police. They also shared that two AK series rifles, grenades and warlike stores were recovered on the encounter site.

The neutralized terrorists have been identified by the police as Mohammad Asif Wani and Mohammad Shafi Ganie of Takiya, Kulgam. They were members of the Jaish-e-Mohammad.

The army quickly built a cordon around the suspected group of houses in the village. The cordon was subsequently toughened by more troops. When the presence of terrorists in the suspected location was confirmed, the forces prioritized the evacuation of civilians to a safe place.

Following that, the army induced the hidden terrorists to surrender by making surrender calls one after the other, but there was no avail.

While the search for target house was on, terrorists initiated an indiscriminate firing to disintegrate the cordon. The troops retaliated with firing, during which they foiled their escape attempt and neutralized one of the terrorists. One soldier had a ricochet injury in the foot during the firefight.

The indiscriminate firing by the terrorist led to a fire in the Gas Godown in the vicinity of the target house. This triggered multiple explosions. To prioritize safety of civilians, the army and police resorted to douse the fire first using foam sprinklers and water bowsers.

Later, contact was re-established and the second terrorist was also neutralized.
