The Health Department in Jammu and Kashmir has put in place an extensive emergency medical preparedness plan ahead of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, with special focus on the Ramban district, which lies on one of the key transit routes for pilgrims.

Officials confirmed that a strengthened medical response system is being developed to handle potential emergencies during the pilgrimage season. The initiative includes deployment of medical teams, establishment of first-aid centres, and upgrading of existing health facilities along the route to ensure quick response in case of accidents, altitude sickness, or other health complications faced by pilgrims.

The plan is being implemented under the supervision of the Health Department, which has directed all district health authorities to remain on high alert during the Yatra period. Special medical camps are being set up at strategic locations, including highways, base camps, and resting points where large numbers of pilgrims are expected to pass through.

Ramban district, which forms a crucial stretch of the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, has been identified as a sensitive zone due to its hilly terrain and weather fluctuations. Authorities have decided to increase the number of ambulances, emergency response units, and mobile medical teams in the region to ensure timely evacuation and treatment if required.

Medical officers have also been instructed to maintain adequate stock of essential medicines, oxygen cylinders, and life-saving equipment. In addition, arrangements are being made for 24-hour availability of doctors and paramedical staff at key health centres.

Training sessions and mock drills have been conducted to prepare medical personnel for handling high-altitude emergencies, trauma cases, and mass casualty situations. Coordination between the Health Department, police, disaster management teams, and local administration has also been strengthened to ensure a smooth response mechanism.

Authorities have further stated that weather monitoring will play an important role in the overall preparedness plan, as sudden changes in conditions often pose challenges during the pilgrimage. Communication systems are also being upgraded to ensure uninterrupted connectivity between medical posts and control rooms.

The annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine attracts thousands of devotees from across the country, making it one of the most significant religious events in the region. With the enhanced medical network in place, officials hope to ensure a safer and more secure journey for all pilgrims passing through Ramban in Jammu and Kashmir.
