Marking its foundation day, the Jammu and Kashmir bank celebrated eighty-four years of public trust. They fondly remembered the founder of the bank, Maharaja Hari Singh, who was also the ruler of the Jammu and Kashmir state, during a function held in their corporate quarters.

MD and CEO Baldev Prakash presided over the commemorative function and paid homage to Maharaja Hari Singh to honour his far-sighted vision. The function was attended by the General Managers, Deputy General Managers, and other senior officers, along with Divisional and Zonal Heads from across the country who joined through the VC mode. Prakash garlanded the portrait of Maharaja Hari Singh as a mark of love and respect. All the General Managers and Deputy General Managers present at the event also paid their respects to the founder of the bank.

After the cake-cutting ceremony, Baldev Prakash recalled how Maharaja Hari Singh realized that the absence of an institutional support and lack of access to credit led to the economic deprivation of people in Jammu and Kashmir. The conceived the idea of establishing a central bank for J&K, which was materialized as the Jammu and Kashmir Bank on 1st October 1938 after extensive reasoning and discussions. He pointed out towards the coincidence that the momentous day in 1938 was also a Saturday.

The MD further said that the bank is moving ahead confidently and carrying forward the legacy of its founder Maharaja Hari Singh with the trust of its stakeholders that include about 20 million account holders, 2500 business touch-points and a business worth almost 2 Lakh Crore.
