The Jammu and Kashmir administration has issued an urgent public advisory after continuous heavy rainfall lashed Bhaderwah and its surrounding areas, raising concerns over flash floods, landslides and rising river levels. Authorities have urged residents and commuters to remain extremely cautious as adverse weather conditions continue to affect several parts of the region.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Bhaderwah Sunil Kumar Butyal, people living in low-lying and riverside areas have been advised to stay away from the Chenab River and avoid unnecessary movement near riverbanks until weather conditions improve. The administration warned that persistent rainfall could trigger landslides, shooting stones and flash floods, particularly along hilly roads and vulnerable stretches.
The advisory also asks residents to avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary and to stay away from overflowing streams, rivers and nallahs. People have been urged to strictly follow instructions issued by the district administration and disaster management authorities and to immediately report any weather-related emergency to the concerned departments. All government agencies have been placed on high alert to ensure a swift response to any untoward incident.
The warning comes as heavy monsoon rains continue to impact several districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Rising inflows into the Chenab River have also prompted authorities to regulate water levels at the Salal reservoir, while neighbouring districts, including Rajouri and Reasi, have issued similar advisories due to the risk of flooding, waterlogging and landslides.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall across parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days, with the possibility of heavy showers at isolated places. Officials have appealed to the public to remain vigilant, avoid risky areas and monitor official weather updates before undertaking any travel. Emergency teams remain on standby as authorities closely monitor the evolving weather situation across the Union Territory.
