J&K: NC, Shiv Sena protest over targeted killings; Teachers say transfers 'not a solution'

The demonstrators said that the current government has failed to safeguard the safety of minorities in Kashmir, claiming that they are attacked virtually every day.

They also requested Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, resign for failing to handle the law and order situation and terrorist operations. 

In the wake of targeted assassinations, teachers are protesting inter-district transfers.

Teachers staged a protest the day after the administration relocated 177 teachers, claiming that transfers are not the answer to ending the killings.  

They said that inter-district transfers would not prevent attacks, and that no site in the valley is safe for minorities.

Following an uptick in targeted killings, a total of 177 Kashmiri Pandit teachers have been relocated to safer areas in Srinagar.  

The action came after a high-security conference convened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who indicated unequivocally that people will not be relocated out of the valley, but rather to safe zones.

Many Kashmiri Pandits and government personnel, in particular, have demanded their removal from Kashmir as a result of the increase in attacks against Hindu civilians.  

Many people have gone on their own, with their families, to different locations in order to avoid being killed or attacked.

Meanwhile, the transfer of Kashmiri Pandit teachers has been carried out in accordance with a list provided by the J&K administration, and the staff have been relocated with their families to safer locations.  

Those sites where extra police officers have been stationed will likewise keep an eye on who comes in and out.

Following an increase in the number of targeted killings of Kashmiri Hindus and non-local government employees in the valley in recent weeks, a large number of government employees have taken to the streets, questioning the J&K government's security arrangements and demanding to be transferred to Jammu or their respective home districts.

Employees who were protesting also vowed to not return to work until the government stopped the attacks and provided them with security.  

These advances were notable in light of the recent savage killings of Kashmiri Pandits and Hindus, notably Rahul Bhat, Amreen Bhat, Rajni Bala, and Vijay Kumar. 

Following this, Home Minister Amit Shah assessed the security situation in the valley at a high-level meeting on Friday and urged security personnel and police to conduct proactive counter-terrorism operations.  

He also told forces to make sure there was no cross-border infiltration.
