Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized around 2 kilograms of suspected narcotics that were allegedly dropped by a drone near the International Border (IB) in Jammu district, officials said on Wednesday.
According to police sources, the consignment was recovered during a joint search operation launched after security agencies received specific intelligence inputs about drone activity along the border area. The packet was found in an agricultural field near the International Border in the Arnia sector of Jammu district.
Officials said the seized material is suspected to be heroin or another high-value narcotic substance, though forensic examination is being carried out to confirm the exact nature of the drugs. The estimated market value of the recovered consignment is believed to be significant.
Security agencies suspect the consignment was smuggled from across the border using a drone as part of an organised cross-border narcotics network. Police teams and border security personnel have intensified surveillance in the area following the recovery.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to identify the intended recipients and the network involved in the smuggling attempt.
Officials said drone-based smuggling along the India-Pakistan border has emerged as a growing security concern in recent years, with several attempts involving narcotics, weapons and ammunition being intercepted by security forces in Jammu and Punjab sectors.
Authorities have increased anti-drone monitoring systems and surveillance operations along sensitive border regions to counter such activities.
