J&K state board orders 'cessation of academic activities' in schools run by Falah-e-Aam trust

The FAT is an associate of the "radical body Jamat-e-Islami, which is proscribed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act," according to officials (UAPA).

This came after the State Probe Agency (SIA) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted an investigation into FAT's alleged egregious illegalities, brazen scams, and widespread encroachment on government lands. 

"The Jamaat-e-Islami gets most of its funding from a vast network of FAT schools, seminaries, orphanages, mosque pulpits, and other charities," SIA officials said, adding that such institutions "played a destructive role in the large-

scale unrests of 2008, 2010, and 2016, bringing huge misery to common people and forcing them to shut down by threat, intimidation, and street violence."

The officials also stated that all FAT schools, numbering over 300, were discovered to be operating on illegally acquired government and community land, with land being occupied by coercion, at gunpoint, as well as colluding with revenue officials who committed fraud and forgery by making incorrect entities in revenue documents.

"The SIA is broadening the scope of these investigations to expose all such scams, unauthorised entities, and forgeries done in the last 30 years at the behest of terrorists and for other reasons, including monetary gain," officials added.
