Amidst the chanting of Vedic Mantras, Bam bam bhole, and beats of damroo all over in the air, the first batch of 3488 pilgrims set off to the holy cave in a convoy of 164 light and heavy vehicles early in the morning.

The Lt Governor wished all the devotees a safe and spiritually-fulfilling journey and prayed for peace, prosperity, and happiness to all.

Amid multi-layer security, the first batch of more than 3,488 pilgrims left for the twin base camps in Nunwan and Baltal in Kashmir to undertake the onward journey to the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine of Lord Shiva in the south Kashmir Himalayas.

The pilgrims were escorted by CRPF troopers with area domination being done by the Army and police on the highway.
