Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday flagged off the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Padyatra in Poonch, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to combating drug abuse and creating a drug-free society.
The padyatra witnessed participation from students, youth groups, government officials, security personnel, and local residents, all united in spreading awareness about the dangers of substance abuse. The initiative forms part of the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, aimed at educating people, especially young individuals, about the harmful effects of drugs and encouraging them to adopt healthy lifestyles.
Addressing the gathering, Manoj Sinha emphasized that drug addiction poses a serious threat to society and can adversely affect the future of the country's youth. He called upon families, educational institutions, community leaders, and social organizations to work together in preventing the spread of narcotics and supporting rehabilitation efforts for those affected by addiction.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that the Jammu and Kashmir administration has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to tackle the drug menace, including awareness campaigns, strict action against drug traffickers, improved rehabilitation facilities, and community participation. He noted that sustained public involvement is essential to achieving the goal of a drug-free region.
Participants in the padyatra carried banners and placards promoting anti-drug messages and raising awareness about the social, physical, and psychological consequences of substance abuse. The march passed through key areas of Poonch, drawing attention from local residents and encouraging broader community engagement in the campaign.
Officials said the initiative is part of a series of awareness programs being organized across Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen public outreach and encourage youth to stay away from drugs. Schools, colleges, and various government departments have also been actively involved in these efforts.
The event concluded with a pledge by participants to support the fight against drug abuse and contribute to building a healthier and safer society. Authorities expressed hope that such campaigns would inspire greater awareness and collective action against the growing challenge of substance abuse.
The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan continues to be one of the government's key social initiatives, focusing on prevention, awareness, treatment, and rehabilitation as part of a comprehensive strategy to curb drug addiction across the country.
