In a strong message against substance abuse, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led a padyatra in Budgam, urging people especially the youth to stay away from drugs and join the fight against addiction.
The padyatra saw participation from students, local residents, officials, and members of civil society, turning it into a large awareness drive. Walking alongside participants, Sinha emphasized that drug abuse is not just a personal issue but a serious social challenge that affects families, communities, and the future of the region.
Addressing the gathering, Sinha highlighted the administration’s commitment to making Jammu and Kashmir drug-free. He called for collective responsibility, urging parents, teachers, and community leaders to play an active role in identifying early signs of addiction and supporting rehabilitation efforts.
The Lieutenant Governor also pointed to ongoing initiatives by the administration, including awareness campaigns in schools and colleges, stricter law enforcement against drug trafficking, and improved access to de-addiction and counseling services. He stressed that prevention, awareness, and rehabilitation must go hand in hand to effectively tackle the issue.
Participants in the padyatra carried placards and slogans promoting a drug-free society, reflecting growing concern over rising cases of substance abuse in parts of the Union Territory. Many young attendees expressed support for the initiative, saying such public campaigns help reduce stigma and encourage open conversations about addiction.
Officials noted that the padyatra in Budgam is part of a broader outreach effort across Jammu and Kashmir to sensitize communities and strengthen grassroots engagement in the fight against drugs.
