LG Sinha Releases Prof. Kavita Suri’s Book ‘Empowering Women in India: Exploring Regional Genderscapes’

Srinagar 29 Feb (CNS): A book titled “Empowering Women in India: Exploring Regional Genderscapes” written by Prof. Kavita Suri was released by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha. 

Prof Suri was former Director of Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu and former member of Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for the Protection of Women and Child Rights. 

On the occasion of the book release, Vivek Suri, senior journalist was also present.
 
The book, which has been published by Kanishka Publishers & Distributors New Delhi and Oberoi Book Service Jammu, is spread over 16 chapters with each chapter providing an insight into gender issues including women empowerment through self-help groups, girl child education, increasing the participation of women in every sphere of life, women entrepreneurship and their entrepreneurial spirit, economic empowerment, women in agricultural activities, women’s role in sustainable environment etc.
 
Prof. Suri expressed her sincerest thanks to the Lt Governor for releasing the book and said that the women empowerment has got a big thrust in the past few years and has grown stronger in India. “The government is making efforts to empower women by creating awareness and economic independence,” she added. 
 
Prof Suri has written twelve books focusing on gender issues, marginalised and tribal communities etc. She has been a recipient of a number of fellowships and awards including British Chevening fellowship at the University of Westminster, London.
 
Lt Governor appreciated Prof Suri for the book and congratulated the author and conveyed best wishes for her future endeavours. (CNS)
