Kulgam, May 20: In a significant step toward strengthening grassroots governance, Member of Parliament for Anantnag-Rajouri, Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi, chaired the first District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at the Mini Secretariat in Kulgam on Monday.

The meeting convened key stakeholders—including MLAs M.Y. Tarigami (Kulgam) and Peerzada Feroze Ahmad (Devsar), DDC Chairman Mohd Afzal Parrey, Deputy Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan, senior district officials, and the Senior Superintendent of Police—to review the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes and assess the district’s overall developmental progress.

DC Athar Aamir Khan provided a comprehensive presentation on major initiatives currently underway in Kulgam, including MGNREGA, PMAY (Gramin and Urban), Tribal Welfare Schemes, Solid and Liquid Waste Management, Integrated Watershed Management Programme, and the National Rural Livelihood Mission.

MP Mian Altaf stressed the importance of accelerating progress in key sectors such as education, health, rural development, and water resources. He issued directives to fast-track the Jal Jeevan Mission and ensure the installation of machinery for all lift water schemes by December 2025. Additionally, he urged the timely commissioning of filtration plants to address local water supply challenges.

Highlighting constituency-specific issues, MLA M.Y. Tarigami called for improved healthcare facilities at the District Hospital and raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of irrigation canals and water distribution systems. MLA Peerzada Feroze Ahmad echoed similar demands for bolstering healthcare infrastructure in Devsar.

The meeting marked a collaborative and proactive approach to regional development, reinforcing the government's commitment to responsive and inclusive governance at the district level.
