Srinagar, 28 June 2025:

Two men who are suspected of harboring Pakistani terrorists involved in the horrific Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which killed 26 civilians and injured 16, have been placed on 10 day remand by a special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Last Sunday, the accused were taken into custody. They were identified as Bashir Ahmad Jothar of Hill Park in Pahalgam and Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar of Batkote. In return for a few thousand rupees, they are accused of giving the attackers food, shelter, and comprehensive intelligence at a secluded hut approximately two kilometers from the Baisaran Valley.

The NIA claims that the men who were arrested revealed the identities of the three terrorists, proving that they were Pakistani nationals who were part of the outlawed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) organization. According to reports, one of these terrorists was a former commando in the Pakistan Army who was working for the Lashkar abetting wing. The agency formally requested extended custody to allow for interrogation and evidence examination, and the court remanded the case on Friday. The remand period gives NIA the opportunity to investigate the attack's network in greater detail and find any more co-conspirators.

Questioning during the remand will concentrate on establishing the entire chain of logistical support, including safe houses, transportation arrangements, and access to weapons or funding, according to a senior NIA official. In order to map the terrorists' ground movements, authorities are also anticipated to look at satellite imagery, financial transactions, and cell phone records. These changes have been heralded as a major advance in the research. "This marks the first major lead in unravelling the local support structure behind this barbaric act," according to one agency source.

The Pahalgam attack, which occurred at a well known tourist meadow, was the deadliest in India since the Mumbai attacks of 2008. Since then, the NIA has gradually assumed control of the investigation and stepped up its efforts to target suspected networks that operate throughout the region.

In the meantime, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have declared increased security along important tourist and pilgrimage routes. Ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, increased surveillance and checkpoints have been implemented as preventative measures. All eyes are on the NIA's upcoming findings as the investigation progresses.

The prolonged detention period is anticipated to provide insight into the attackers' final days prior to the heinous attack and whether additional people were complicit.
