A Pakistani national was apprehended by Indian security forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Friday during a routine surveillance operation. The man was spotted moving suspiciously in the forward area and was immediately taken into custody by a joint team of the Army and police.
According to officials, the detained individual has been identified as Mohammad Sajad, son of Rafiq, and a resident of Polas in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Security agencies are currently interrogating him to determine the circumstances of his crossing and whether he had any specific motive or links to infiltration networks.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the crossing was accidental or an attempted infiltration. Further investigations are underway, and security agencies are examining his background and movements before he was detained.
The incident comes amid heightened vigilance along the LoC, where security forces have remained on high alert following several recent infiltration attempts and cross-border incidents. Just last month, the Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch, killing an intruder who had crossed into Indian territory.
Earlier this month, another incident in Poonch saw a 14-year-old boy from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir being detained after allegedly crossing the LoC into Indian territory.
Officials said further details regarding Mohammad Sajad's interrogation and any possible security implications are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
