POLICE DESTROY POPPY CULTIVATION IN BARAMULLA

In a major crackdown on the illegal cultivation of poppy, police in Baramulla district have destroyed poppy cultivation on a large scale. The operation was carried out in the Uri sector, where poppy cultivation is rampant.


Acting on information received from locals, police teams raided several villages in the Uri sector and destroyed poppy cultivation on over 4-5 kanals of land. The police also seized a large quantity of poppy seeds and other material used for cultivation.


The operation was led by Incharge Police Post Kamalkote under the supervision of SDPO Uri along with Magistrate concerned. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of law in this regard.


This is not the first time that police have taken action against poppy cultivation in Baramulla district. In the past, police have destroyed poppy cultivation on several occasions. However, poppy cultivation continues to be a major problem in the district.


Poppy cultivation is a major source of income for many people in the Uri sector. However, poppy cultivation is also a major cause of drug addiction in the region. The destruction of poppy cultivation is a major step in the fight against drug addiction in the region.


The police have appealed to the people to cooperate with the police in the fight against drug addiction. They have also urged the people to refrain from cultivating poppy and to help the police in destroying poppy cultivation.


The destruction of poppy cultivation is a positive step in the fight against drug addiction in Baramulla district. However, more needs to be done to address the issue of drug addiction in the region. The police need to work with other stakeholders, such as the government, NGOs, and the community, to address the issue of drug addiction in the region.
