Heavy monsoon rains have caused widespread disruption across Jammu and Kashmir, with extensive crop damage reported in Udhampur and a flash flood wreaking havoc in Doda district.
In Udhampur, continuous rainfall has severely affected harvested crops, leaving farmers worried about heavy financial losses. Waterlogging in agricultural fields has damaged standing produce, prompting the Agriculture Department to issue advisories urging farmers to improve field drainage and prevent further losses. Officials have also launched awareness camps across panchayats, providing guidance on pest control, disease management and crop recovery measures.
Meanwhile, Doda district witnessed a flash flood following intense overnight rainfall. The sudden surge of water and mud caused significant damage to homes, shops, vehicles and public infrastructure, while parts of the crucial Doda-Kishtwar highway were affected by landslides and debris. Authorities have deployed emergency teams to clear roads, assess the damage and restore connectivity in the affected areas.
Local residents described the downpour as one of the heaviest in recent weeks, with fast-flowing water entering residential areas and disrupting normal life. Fortunately, no major casualties have been reported so far, but officials remain on high alert as rain continues in several parts of the Jammu region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy rainfall may continue over parts of Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days, increasing the risk of localized flooding, landslides and further damage to infrastructure and agriculture. Authorities have advised residents, especially those living in vulnerable and hilly areas, to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve.
