Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir – In a significant breakthrough, the Srinagar Police apprehended a high-profile member of the notorious militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) during a meticulously planned operation. The security forces also recovered four perfume-shaped improvised explosive devices (IEDs), bringing to light yet another dangerous tactic employed by extremist organizations in the region.

Acting on credible intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Srinagar Police and other security agencies launched a targeted operation in a densely populated area of the city. The operation aimed at neutralizing a LeT operative known to be actively involved in planning and executing terror activities in the region. The apprehended individual has been identified as Abdul Rahman, a 32-year-old resident of Anantnag district.

Abdul Rahman, who had been on the security forces’ radar for quite some time, was considered a key operative within the ranks of LeT. He was allegedly involved in recruiting local youth for carrying out subversive activities, including attacks on security forces and civilians. The recovery of the four perfume IEDs further highlights the group’s attempt to disguise explosive materials as innocuous items.

The perfume-shaped IEDs, though relatively small in size, possessed a significant potential to cause harm and destruction. Disguised as ordinary perfume bottles, they were designed to explode upon activation, inflicting casualties and damage to property. Such tactics pose a grave threat to public safety and require the utmost vigilance on the part of law enforcement agencies.

Senior police officials expressed their satisfaction over the successful operation, which dealt a severe blow to the LeT network operating in the region. The arrest of Abdul Rahman and the recovery of the perfume IEDs are expected to disrupt the group’s plans for carrying out attacks and instilling fear among the local populace.

“This operation demonstrates our relentless commitment to ensuring peace and security in the region,” said Inspector General of Police, Srinagar, Mr. Vijay Sharma. “We will continue to act swiftly and decisively against any attempts to disrupt the peace process in Jammu and Kashmir.”

The security forces have intensified their efforts to identify and neutralize militants operating in the area, adopting a multi-faceted approach involving intelligence-based operations and community outreach programs. The cooperation and support of the local population have been instrumental in recent successes against militant outfits.

The recovered IEDs have been sent for forensic examination, while Abdul Rahman is being interrogated for gathering further intelligence about LeT’s activities and network in the region. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals that could pose a threat to peace and security.

The successful operation by the Srinagar Police and other security agencies underscores the ongoing commitment to maintaining law and order in Jammu and Kashmir. It serves as a reminder of the constant threat posed by extremist groups and the dedication of the security forces in protecting innocent lives and upholding the principles of peace and harmony in the region.
