Top Hizbul commander killed in Anantnag encounter

“Terrorist Commander of proscribed terror outfit HM Nisar Khanday killed. Incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition including 01 AK 47 rifle recovered."

A top commander of a militant group Hizbul Mujahideen was killed by security forces in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Saturday.


The gunfight broke out between security forces and militants on Friday in the Rishipora area of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Three soldiers and a civilian were also injured in the encounter. The injured were airlifted to 92 base hospitals in Srinagar for treatment. 


"All the injured were immediately airlifted to 92 base hospital Srinagar for treatment and are stated to be stable," said J&K police spokespersons.


The Kashmir Police Zone said the operation is still going on. The slain militant has been identified as militant Nisar Khanday. Nisar Khanday, a resident of Anantnag, had joined the militancy in 2018.


Kashmir Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar, informing about the encounter said, "Terrorist Commander of proscribed terror outfit HM Nisar Khanday killed. Incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition including 01 AK 47 rifle recovered."
