Two LeT militants killed in gunfight in Kupwara

Informing about the encounter, J-K Police tweeted, quoting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar tweeted, “KupwaraEncounterUpdate: Two terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT including one Pakistani terrorist namely Tufail killed. Search still going on.”

An encounter broke out in the wee hours on Tuesday in which two militants, including a Pakistani national namely Tufail, were killed in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The slain militants belonged to the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).


The encounter broke out hours after a militant was killed in Sopore while three of his associates fled the scene. After receiving inputs, a joint team of J-K police and the Army initiated a search operation and cordoned the off Chatkaras Kandi area of Kupwara. During searching, militants opened fone at the security forces.

The Kupwara encounter is the second gunfight in the last 12 hours. On Monday, a gunfight broke out in Zaloora village of Sopore in north Kashmir in which a militant was killed, and his two associates were neutralized on Tuesday morning.
