The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued a warning to citizens not to share Aadhaar photocopies with any organisations, citing the possibility of misuse.

The government recommends using masked Aadhaar, which only shows the last four digits of your Aadhaar number and can be downloaded from the UIDAI’s official website, https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.

At https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/verifyAadhaar, you can check if an Aadhaar number exists. To verify offline, use a QR code scanner in the mAadhaar mobile application to scan the QR code on an eAadhaar, Aadhaar letter, or Aadhaar PVC card.

“Please do not download an e-Aadhaar from a public computer at an internet café or kiosk. However, if you do so, make sure you permanently erase all downloaded versions of e-Aadhaar from that computer “The release was added.

“Aadhaar can only be used to establish a person’s identification by companies that have secured a User License from the UIDAI. Private businesses that aren’t licenced, such as hotels or movie theatres, aren’t allowed to acquire or maintain copies of Aadhaar cards. The Aadhaar Act of 2016 makes it illegal. If a private entity requests to see an Aadhaar card or a photocopy of an Aadhaar card, please ensure that they have a valid UIDAI User License “It was also added.
