Afghanistan jolted by earthquake of 6.1 magnitude, at least 130 dead, 250 injured

Reportedly, most of the deaths in Afghanistan have been reported in the province of Paktika. So far 100 people have died in the province due to the earthquake

At least 130 people lost their lives when an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 hit Afghanistan on Wednesday. Officials said that more than 250 people were injured and reviewing the intensity of the ravage caused by the earthquake, the death toll is expected to spike up. 


As per the US Geological Survey, the earthquake had its epicenter at a depth of 51 km near the city of Khost near the Pakistan border.  


The quake was of high intensity as more than 119 million people across Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India felt the tremors.


Reportedly, most of the deaths in Afghanistan have been reported in the province of Paktika. So far 100 people have died in the province due to the earthquake. In the city of Khost, 25 people were killed and 5 were reported dead in Nangarhar province.


Apart from the loss of lives, the quake has also ravaged scores of houses and buildings in Afghanistan. As per the reports, the jolts have also triggered landslides in eastern Paktika province.
