Beholding women driving in Afghanistan may not be possible anymore as the Taliban regime in Afghanistan has put a halt on issuing driving licenses to women in Kabul and other provinces.
Prior to the Taliban coming into power, Women in Afghanistan were seen driving in major cities, but now, as per the local media, the ban has snatched the right to driving from the womenfolk of the country.
The ban on the issuance of driving licenses surfaced when the country is already grappling with an acute shortage of food and other essential supplies.
The situation of human rights in Afghanistan has notably nose-dived to new lows after the collapse of its government and the return of the Taliban to power in August 2021.
Earlier, the Taliban regime had barred girls from
attending school above class 6th. The
decree received worldwide backlash. Though the Taliban leaders defended the
decision by saying that there was a "shortage of teachers" and that
the right of girls to study beyond grade sixth will be restored "shortly".
