Due to an engine shut down, an Air India flight flying from Mumbai had to return to the city soon after take-off. The flight was flying for Bengaluru but due to a technical malfunction, the plane had to make an emergency landing.
The DGCA stated that “the Air India flight was forced to turn back after a technical failure occurred minutes after the aircraft departed at 9.45 am.”
Reports suggest that soon after the takeoff, pilots received a warning in the cockpit indicating extremely high exhaust gas temperatures and a stall warning for the right-hand side engine. However, the ambulances and fire tenders were on standby and the aircraft had a safe but the emergency landing.
On investigating the technical failure, photographs of the engine show some damage to the compressor blades.
