As the Covid outbreak continues in China, the capital places more restrictions

Parts of Beijing were once again placed under lockdown on Sunday, as the pandemic outbreak spreads to more and more cities in China due to Xi Jinping's mismanagement of the Zero-Covid Policy.

According to China's Global Times, the authorities have enforced a lockdown in the Haidian district, as well as Chaoyang, Fengtai, Shunyi, and Fangshan districts, citing a statement from the municipal government's spokeswoman, Xu in Hejian.

According to Chinese media reports, all indoor entertainment venues, gyms, training institutions, and retail malls have been shuttered as of today, with the exception of eateries that offer delivery services and pharmacies.

According to Global Times, which cited Xu Hejian's comments, all rated scenic locations in the capital city will be suspended, and all parks should cap visits to 30% of capacity.

Because the domestically transmitted COVID-19 situation remains uncertain, people in five Beijing districts have been urged to work from home until May 28. 

Xu explained that the COVID-19 issue has been compounded by the extremely contagious Omicron, with most patients only displaying moderate symptoms.

He also stated that people's disregard for the Covid-19 preventative guidelines has contributed to the clustering outbreak, which has increased the infection's transmission risk.

China recorded 157 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday, according to a National Health Commission report released today, with Beijing reporting 52 new confirmed locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 9 local asymptomatic cases.

China's well-publicized 'zero-covid' approach, which the authorities credited with taking the country out of the pandemic until recently, is crumbling as fast rising cases force huge lockdowns similar to those seen in 2020.
