Congratulating Albanese for becoming Australia’s next Prime minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Congratulations @AlboMP for the victory of the Australian Labor Party, and your election as the Prime Minister! I look forward to working towards further strengthening our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and for shared priorities in the Indo-Pacific region.”
Australia’s next prime minister Anthony Albanese is set to ascend to the Prime ministerial chair of Australia. He led the Labor party to its first electoral victory in nearly a decade. Also, the Prime Minister-elect has already acquired significant acquaintance with India.
According to high commissioner Barry O’ Farell, Albanese had visited India with a parliamentary delegation. In 1991, he also came to explore the country as a young adventurer.
Underlining Albanese’s connection with India, Barry O’ Farell tweeted: “Australia’s Prime Minister-elect @AlboMP is no stranger to India having traveled the country as a backpacker in 1991 and led a parliamentary delegation in 2018.”
He said the new PM, also known as “Albo”, had committed during his election campaign to deepening India-Australia’s economic, strategic, and people-to-people links.
O’Farrell further added, “Australian electors, including our vibrant Indian #diaspora, have freely and enthusiastically participated in #AustraliaVotes”.
