The results of the presidential election for the Congress were announced on today, and Mallikarjun Kharge emerged as the winner.

Compared to Shashi Tharoor, who garnered roughly 1000 votes and had 416 votes rejected, Kharge received 7897 votes.

Shashi Tharoor, another candidate for the Congress presidential nomination, stated a day before voting began that he would cooperate with Mallikarjun Kharge if the latter were to win the election.

The Thiruvananthapuram MP told ANI that while he wants to reform the way the Congress operates, there is no ideological difference between him and Kharge.

The Congress was poised to nominate a non-Gandhi as party head after nearly 25 years, with senior Congressmen Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor contesting against one another in a historic election.

Giving best wishes to the newly elected president, Shashi Tharoor, said, "It is great honour, huge responsibility to be president of Congress, I wish Mallikarjun Kharge all success in that task."

"President is the supreme authority in the Congress, whoever gets elected will decide on the way forward," said Rahul Gandhi during Bharat Jodo Yatra in Adoni, Andhra Pradesh.
