North Korea reported 15 fresh fatalities from "fever" on Sunday. The country recently announced its first-ever cases of Covid-19 and ordered nationwide lockdowns.
State media Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that so far 42 people have died of the ‘fever’. Also, out of a total of 820,620 cases, at least 324,550 are under medical treatment.
Leader Kim Jong Un has shown great concern over the outbreak that has caused "great upheaval" in the country.
KCNA further reported that "all provinces, cities, and counties of the country have been totally locked down and working units, production units, and residential units closed from each other."
On Thursday, North Korea confirmed the first case of a highly contagious Omicron variant in the capital Pyongyang, and soon after that nationwide lockdown was imposed to curtail the spread.
"The spread of malignant disease comes to be a great upheaval in our country since the founding of the DPRK," Kim said Saturday, referring to North Korea by its official name.
