DU professor arrested for Facebook post on Gyanvapi case

Police received the complaint on Tuesday night against Lal, a professor of history at Hindu College, who was making deliberate and malicious posts on Facebook. These posts were allegedly intended to outrage religious feelings

Delhi University (DU) professor Ratan Lal was arrested by police on Friday over his Facebook post on Gynvapi mosque. North Delhi’s cyber police station has registered a case against him for making reportedly objectionable content on social media.



The arrest of the DU professor was confirmed by the Deputy commissioner of police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi.



“The professor’s social media post referred to claims of a Shivling being found at the Gyanvapi mosque. A case under sections 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion by words) and 295A (malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code has been lodged against him at the cyber police station in North Delhi,” the police said.



Police received the complaint on Tuesday night against Lal, a professor of history at Hindu College, who was making deliberate and malicious posts on Facebook. These posts were allegedly intended to outrage religious feelings.



 “The accused had allegedly posted a photo of the structure and made objectionable comments on Tuesday. Legal action has been initiated in this regard and the investigation has been taken up,” Sagar Kalsi said.
