EC announces Presidential Election to be held on 18 July, President Ram Nath Kovind’s term will end on July 24 July

The ECI also informed that the last date of filing for the nomination is 29 June and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is set to be 2 July. A total of 4,809 electors will be eligible for casting their vote for presidential polls this year

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar today, June 9, announced that the presidential poll for the next president will take place on 21 July, whereas counting will culminate on 21 July.


The ECI also informed that the last date of filing for the nomination is 29 June and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is set to be 2 July.  A total of 4,809 electors will be eligible for casting their vote for presidential polls this year.


Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar also said that the current president Ram Nath Kovind’s five-year term will conclude on 24 July, and as per Article 62 of the Constitution, the next president has to be elected before his tenure ends.


Ram Nath Kovind was elected as the president on 20th July 2017. At that time, his oath as the 14th president of India was administered by the then Chief Justice of India (CJI) Jagdish Singh Khehar on 25 July that year.
