EC will announce date for presidential poll today at 3 pm

After long speculation, the Election Commission has decided to announce the date for the presidential election on Thursday at 3 pm.

As per the sources, the schedule for the poll of the President of India will be revealed during a press conference slated to take place today.

The current president Ram Nath Kovind’s five-year tenure will end next month on July 24, and as per Article 62 of the Constitution, the poll for the next president must be held before the completion of the current president’s term.

The last election for the president was held on July 17 2017 and the name of the elected president was declared after three days on July 20.

In India, the president is elected by the elected members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. (ANI)
