The Gujarat Police Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested five people on Saturday, June 10, 2023, on charges of having links to the Islamic State (IS). The five accused, all of whom are Kashmiris, were arrested from Porbandar and Surat in Gujarat.

The arrests were made following a tip-off that the IS was planning to carry out terror attacks in Gujarat. The ATS had been tracking the activities of the five accused for some time and had gathered evidence that they were planning to travel to Afghanistan to join the IS.

The five accused have been identified as Ubaid Nasir Mir, Hanan Hayat Shawl, Muhammad Hajim Shah, Zubair Ahmed Munshi, and Sumerabanu Mohammad Hanif Malek. All of them are residents of Srinagar in Kashmir.

The ATS has recovered incriminating material, including IS propaganda material, from the possession of the accused. The accused have also confessed to their involvement in the IS.

The arrests of the five accused have sent a strong message to the IS that Gujarat will not tolerate any terrorist activity. The ATS has warned that it will take stern action against anyone who is found to be involved in terror activities.

The arrests have also raised concerns about the growing threat of terrorism in Gujarat. Gujarat has been relatively peaceful in recent years, but the arrests have shown that the IS is trying to make inroads into the state.

The Gujarat government has said that it is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of the people of the state. The government has also appealed to the people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.

The arrests of the five accused are a reminder of the threat of terrorism that India faces. The government and the people of India must remain vigilant and work together to defeat the forces of terror.

Here are some of the key takeaways from the arrests:
