French Holi - More than one thousand people celebrate Holi in France's Val-de-Reuil

Holi is more than just a festival for Indians all over the world; it is a whole celebration of life. It is the end of all worries, and it is, of course, celebrated with lots of food. The thing that distinguishes Holi from other festivals is that it is celebrated with everyone every person , not just with friends and family.

Val-de-Reuil, a town around 200 kilometres from Paris, did not want to be forgotten. 

The Town Council, with the help of GOPIO and GIO France, arranged a spectacular carnival on Saturday, April 23. 
The subject was India and a celebration of Holi, India's colourful holiday.

The Global Organization for People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) and the Global Indian Organisation (GIO) of France teamed up with the City Council of Val-de-Rueil, a small town in Normandie, to organise a march to brighten the streets and people alike.

The event was organised by Mehen Poinoosawmy (GOPIO International Coordinator Europe) and Tarun Kalwani, president of GOPIO France, as well as the entire GOPIO and GIO France Executive Council.

The carnival's theme was Indian Maharaja. 
Two Maharjas happily gyrating throughthe town's lanes on prop horses. The atmosphere was enhanced by dance, music, and the fluttering Indian tricolour. 
From Lord Ganesha to the Indian Tigerand the Taj Mahal, the carnival was decked with icons of India's rich culture.
A crowd of over 1000 people had gathered to watch. 
It reminded of an Indian Mela as there were kiosks selling mehendi, junk jewelry and some beverages.


Surrounded by his team, Anwar Hussain harmonized the audience with Rajasthani traditional music and his powerful voice. 
He was appropriately dubbed Bollywood Maharaja because he combined Rajasthani folk music with floor-stomping Bollywood music.

The sky, too, changed colour, shifting from blue to red, green, yellow, and pink.The GOPIO team, as well as the audience, began to play with colours.

While everyone was dancing to the music, Nari Shakti 2022 Begum Batoolji took the stage and put everyone in a trance with more Rajasthani folk music. 

Senu, who performed the traditional Rajasthani folk dance with Bhavai, balancing eight pots on her head, wowed the audience. 

She did it on three steel blades, as if that wasn't enough.
As Anwar Bhai, Begum Batoolji, and the full 'Bassant' performed to booming claps, the audience gasped and cheered in equal measure. 

Nothing was left out when it came to setting the stage, from Bharatnatyam toBollywood Pop.
After then, the floor was opened up foreveryone to dance to popular Bollywood songs. 

Hundreds of people of many cultural backgrounds were mesmerised by the beauty of the Holi festival. 

Everyone danced till the sun set for theday, regardless of their age, from children to adults.

Finally, Mme Stéphanie Rousselin, Deputy Mayor of Val de Reuil, presented Nari Shakti 2022, Begum Batoolji with a bouquet as everyone shouted.
