French President Macron meets UAE’s new president, pays tribute to Sheikh Khalifa

“He was respected by all for the values of peace, openness and dialogue that he embodied,” Macron tweeted

French President Emmanuel Macron landed in Abu Dhabi and met UAE’s new president Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Macron visited UAE to pay homage to former president Sheikh Khalifa, who passed away on Friday.



Macron extended his condolence to Sheikh Mohammed who is the half-brother of Sheikh Khalifa.


Macron also poured his tribute to Sheikh Khalifa on Twitter. “He was respected by all for the values of peace, openness and dialogue that he embodied,” Macron tweeted.



Several other leaders also came forward to pay tribute to the former president of the UAE. Arab leaders including Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi also came to UAE on Saturday to express their condolence. 



Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, father King Salman, sent a delegation to pay respect to the departed soul.



British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, also marked his presence when he arrived later Sunday to offer condolences.



The British PM offered his condolence, saying, “the deep ties which unite our countries will continue through our cooperation and friendship”.
